Sounding rockets are one or two stage solid propellant rockets used for analyse the lower atmospheric regions as well as re-entry systems. The Sounding rockets are affordable systems to test prototypes of new components.
We have build Single Staged Solid Propellant (H, J Class Rocket Motor) Rocket. The main working component in the rocket is its motor. Other parts in the rocket are the body, nose, nozzle, and fins. We here make solid propellant rocket.
The rocket fuel mixture consists of Fuel and Oxidizer. There are number of fuel and oxidizer combinations which are categorized by Thrust, Size, Burn-time and Initial knock. We have used one of the most standard combination refered as Rocket candy or R-candy which is a mixture of sugar (Fuel) and Potassium Nitrate (Oxidizer).
The Rocket motor consists of Rocket fuel, Casing and Nozzle arrangement. The main aim is to achieve maximum height possible and for that initial thrust plays crucial role which can be done by minimizing the fuel burning time. Nozzle arrangement can be beneficial because of small orifice which allows the burning fuel to pass through a single path with high velocity which eventually decreases burning time.
Bluff body is exposed to more drag. Drag will degrade the performance of rocket in terms of Achievable height and it also reduces the overall effective thrust. So in order to overcome this Nose is mounted at the top section of the rocket which reduces the drag and increases the performance because of aerodynamic shape.
